The furnace will consume us
So now towards our ends
Who could wish for more
Than to die beside their friends?
Today’s OctPoWriMo prompt was to take an emotional scene from a film and turn it into a poem. This scene makes me cry every time… Can anyone work it out?

LOTR Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee beside the Cracks of Doom?

True fact – Samwise’s accent was based on mine after 2.7 ciders

2.7 strong ciders?

In my younger days, perhaps… now 2.7 thoughts about cider would probably do it

Long shot here…is it Toy Story 3? I am hesitant to guess, in case it is a more serious film!

No, spot on first time! TS3 is one of the best films ever made, and definitely the best third part of a series ever… IMHO 🙂

My daughter and I both cried. In the theater. The movie was really good, especially for a third.

I still cry every time… this is a problem, as my 2 year old is a big fan of the film!

Uuuh, I don’t know. I don’t watch very many movies…but I like what the commenter above me guessed. 🙂

I’m guessing Toy Story, too 🙂

Yep… a little annoyed that people got it straight away, tbh! Gotta love Toy Story…

This is beautiful. I still haven’t watched Toy story 3 yet so thought it was maybe “the notebook” :D. Guess I was wrong.

Thanks Ameena. I haven’t seen The Notebook… Most of my film viewing is dictated by having to watch films with a 5 year old!

The last thing I’d want would be to die beside my friends. I’d want them far away, actually. Safe and sound, and not having to watch my suffering.
I haven’t seen that movie, but that does sound like a really sad ending. 😦

In the context of the film, it’s absolutely perfect… But they do manage to escape at the last minute, for a full emotional roller coaster ride!

I’ve not seen the movie, and if it’s going to reduce me to tears, I’ll probably not put it on my list. I DO LOVE your poem–wowza!

Sweet, regardless of the context. Though I did see the film and liked it. Nicely done!

Short but powerful. Wouldn’t have guessed TS3 but, if you think about, TS3 does have a little LOTR going on in it. LOL

Thanks Jesi – the furnace and friendship ideas are definitely common to both!

Thanks Cindy! I went for a “show, not tell” approach. Considered adding more detail but it just didn’t feel right for the situation, I guess. Glad you liked it 🙂
