As a special treat, here is the version of Imagine re-recorded following the zombie uprising, using some drunken session out-takes from John Lennon himself. Remember that, whatever our views on Lennon’s ear for a simple melody, his “bed-in”, peacenik ways would not have helped him survive in a zombie world… the undead aren’t big fans of giving peace a chance. However, this version hints at a primordial depth to Lennon that may have made him one of the great World War Z leaders. We will never know. R.I.P. John x
Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Zombies piling high
Imagine all the undead
Dying for today…
Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Border police all eaten
Customs and excise too
Imagine all the undead
Dying now in pieces…
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday we’ll kill them
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
Just your wits to get by
Living like a cave-man
Imagine all the undead
Snacking on the world…
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday we’ll kill them
And the world will live as one
Brilliant! Oh I love this!

I think it improves on the rather drippy original… 🙂

It’s definitely an anthem for our time. Let’s face it, the rest of it won’t matter at all once we get zombed!

Well, it was either this or the Frog Chorus 😉

I think we’ll have to call in an exorcist on 1st of may. You are really immersed in this zombie theme- must be the poetry equivalent of method acting 😂

You have no idea… I’ve been living in a tent in the garden, feeding on nuts and berries for the “full experience”!

Hmm I don’t think there’s enough there for me to do a zombie re-write (believe me, I just spent ten mins looking at the lyrics!)

My heart goes out to you if you also spent 10 min listening to it haha. Maybe more sleepless nights are required?!?

I just read the lyrics, I couldn’t listen to it again! I slept like a log last night, and now have 200 emails to catch up on (literally). It’s a double-edged sword!

Fan mail? Or john lennon fans? Seriously though – 200 emails in a day?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I probably get 300 a day. 100 will be emails from blogs that I follow, with their latest/daily posts. 100 or so will be blog notifications from my own blog – comments, likes, follows. And then the usual daily bunch of “other”
The hate mail from John Lennon fans hasn’t started yet. I’ll let you know 😉

Oh right. I actually stopped mail alerts for that reason- I was getting overwhelmed with the amount, and stopped checking which only made it worse and made my email address un-useable for any correspondence I was actually expecting. Now I rely only on reader to see posts of bloggers I follow or occasionally check on their blogs to see if I’ve missed anything. Wait for it- they are a dedicated bunch! I’m more a George Harrison fan 🙂 Incidentally, I see he has a twitter account even though twitter didn’t come into being till after his death…

I’ve turned off alerts for “likes”, but I like getting emails with comments on, esp as I can’t always get onto the laptop to access the Reader (it’s a bit fiddly on my phone). I may have to cut back eventually though…
re George Harrison – now THAT’S dedication … not even letting death get in the way of setting up your twitter account! (“Something” is the most beautiful of all Beatles songs)
Just reading a poem you wrote on the buildingapoem site… 🙂

Yes, I guess when you are so popular, those pesky ‘like’ alerts might cause your email to break haha. Yes, something is beautiful. You know what- google something and that is the FIRST thing that pops up! just the word ‘something’. Ha, yes that was a fun poem to write and was really chuffed at Susan’s good humoured response to it, making me a bigger fan of buildingapoem 🙂

I’m not sure I qualify as popular yet!
Susan took your reply really well. I understand where she’s coming from, but she was right to back down too! 🙂

It’s all relative! Yes, she did – it ended well. We all have rants, some of us are just more guarded with sharing them, but good on her for being open to contrary views on a public forum- takes courage and integrity to say you were ‘wrong’ when it is easier to censor or delete.

You have the chops to give Shel Silverstein a run for his money! And while I take umbrage to the slamming John Lennon comment… I forgive you as I am thoroughly delighted with this offering! 🙂

In some alternative universe, John Lennon is the leader of the human resistance… and he fed Yoko to the zombies on day one!

Very funny. Two thoughts. I don’t think Yoko would amount to much as a zombie meal, lol. And two, I think maybe you need more sleep!

There’s a little artistic licence there… currently the reality is a three year old bouncing on my back as I lie on the floor… I think the spike would be easier!

I learn so much reading your blog, it’s like an encyclopedia of random useful information. Such as: Yoko Ono’s nutritional value, the uses for having 3 year olds and what I can tell others to do with their spikes…. I am forever in your debt.

I’m not a fan of this one, either… it’s up there with Bryan Adams’ Everything I Do, and Robbie Williams’ Angels, for mawkish sentimentality parading as something deeper… although I quite like the piano part 🙂
