For those who have a half hour to spare, check out this interview with ME! It’s my first ever radio spot, so, you know, if this writing/poeming thing ever works out, you can say you were there at the beginning… “I liked his early, funny stuff”…

Huge thanks to Annette Rochelle Aben for having me on her show, and making it all feel very easy. 🙂
Woohoo! Go, you! I can’t listen to it at home (it will completely kill my *&^%ing internet) but will check it out when I’m next in town. 🙂

What teresa said, but I won’t be in town soon.

It would be a long way for you to travel (ie to Teresa’s town) to get broadband! 🙂

Might have more chance doing that though! Currently taken up our internet plight with our local member of parliament (seriously).

Wow, that sucks… so much trade and business is reliant on a decent internet connection, let alone all the social media and blogging stuff. Hope your MP takes it seriously

I hope so too! We’re a little backwards here- ranked 60th in world for internet service. This is Australia I’m talking about. Anyway, do I rarely do any big data stuff like streaming radio interviews of my famous friends…

Ha ha! You can also download it as a podcast to listen to at your leisure… just doing that now myself! Not that I’m vain or anything… 🙂

Not just about service quality but lack of a home Internet service means using just the data on our mobile phone plans, so wven if i wait 3 days for your interview to download, it is still data that I have to ration. So- ill just read posts for now and pretend I live in 2002 😊

I’ll summarise for you, in a data-friendly, haiku (obviously) style:
Al had two nippers,
Started writing picture books
Got hooked on haiku
Annette thinks I’m great –
Compared me to Silverstein.
A huge compliment!
Al doesn’t plan things
But wants to be published soon
Where will this lead him?

Al is so funny
Worth every single kilo
In weight and in byte
I have no idea who silverstein is, but that’s great!

She Silverstein was an American poet and songwriter, who wrote lots of rhyming stuff that’s sort of for kids, and sort of not, too. I hadn’t heard of him until an American friend mentioned him – I checked him out, and that style is definitely one I’m aiming for! (He also wrote the Johnny Cash song, A Boy Named Sue)

It was a great interview Al. and you MUST get your work published!!! 🙂

That’s the plan, one way or another! 🙂 Glad you liked it. I want to do more podcasts and video poems now… May come to you for some tips! 🙂

You know I will help if I can! I have yet to learn about podcasts myself though! 🙂

Certainly a broad one, anyway!
Before you know it, I’ll be podcasting and youtubing on my blog too… it all starts here!

My rise to inevitable total-media dominance started here. Remember that! 😀

I’ll be so proud. My little zombie, all grown up and OWNING the world of media. Just remember yer old mum here, toss her a crumb of leftover biscuits once in a while, to dunk in her tea. God Bless ya, God Bless ya.

No one tell!! You were awesome. I’m thrilled that I’ll be able to say I knew him before he wrote that best seller!

Series of best sellers, please! 😉

Oh, yes! That’s certainly what I meant. There were so many, I was stuck when they asked me to choose a favorite.

My computer actually was able to manage this! It was so fun to listen to you! I didn’t know you were so versatile or that you wrote for children too. Clearly you have the writing bug. 🙂

I’ve been bitten badly! I’ve still got half a dozen rhyming children’s stories that I want to “finish” and submit at some point. They are ridiculously hard to get right!

Yes- so hard to get right! I have been doing research in this area for 22 months now 😂

It’s really frustrating when people think that “kids stories are easy”… some may be, but most aren’t! Writing for adults is so much easier!

Yep- I’ve had ideas for one floating in my head and briefly on paper, but it really hard to strike the right bslance of elements that ‘work’. Best of luck on your writing journey! It’s great to have good feedback and encouragement along the way!

Thank you – I wouldn’t have got this far without that! If you want someone to bounce ideas off, btw, am happy to help 🙂

Thanks Al. No children’s book at the moment, but I might take you up on that one of these days. For now, I have a novel to keep plodding on…although I could just create a rhyming blurb of my novel, stick it on board book and call it a children’s tale? haha 🙂

Yeah, good luck with that! 🙂

Just listened to the show, Al. Great to be able to put a voice to the Blogger. Great poems (even if you had to cut one short). Thanks for also giving Ronovan’s Haiku Challenge a mention.
I look forward to seeing your work in print.
Have a great weekend.

Thanks Hugh… that poem had been building up to the line “kiwis are made from wee-wees”… chose to leave that bit out!
Enjoy your weekend 🙂

It was aimed at the fruit rather than the people, but best not to get into any international misunderstandings!
