Today is National Poetry Day – be sure to join in! http://nationalpoetryday.co.uk/join-in/
This year’s theme is messages…
When I was but a teenage boy,
I left a message in a bottle.
I wasn’t one for thinking then,
Living life full throttle.
I tossed it far off to the sea,
Watched it float away.
Wondering who would find it:
What on earth they’d say!
Much to my surprise,
Years later, fully grown,
The postie brought my bottle back:
“Return to sender:
address unknown”

That’s a neat story. Kind of sad there was no way to track where it had gone.

That choked me up a bit. Not sure why, but it packed a little punch to the heart. You’re so good, my friend.

Aw darn. Seems that the message was intended for the older self.
I’d love to find a message in a bottle.

Me too. There’s something magical about it. It’d be a great story prompt… Hmm (thinks) 🙂

I accidentally hit “enter” before the punchline…
“It’s bigger on the inside”
“That’s what they all say”

Thank you, my friend… It’s a good job I live so far from the coast, or I’d be littering the sea with poems in a bottle all the time!

I see… As that would mean I would have to get myself a water vessel so as to scour the pond for some corked glass.

Aww. This is sweet, Al. I’ve never sent a message in a bottle but I’d love to find one. That would be fun. 🙂

Well, at least it wasn’t because of insuficient postage.

How did the postman get it through the letterbox slot? Or was it a really tiny bottle?

Awe, too bad there was no response. But at least he got a little piece of the past with his childhood letter. 😉
