OctPoWriMo #8 – Blues (poem)

Three in the morning
No one is sleeping
A momentary pause
Hallway creeping

It starts up again
Those endless tears
Sobbing and wailing
Confirming my fears

Patience is tested
My better side bested
Frustration kicks in
As sleep is arrested

Singing and talking
Hugging and rocking
Won’t make him stop…
Defences unlocking

Inner flames raging
Self’s war is waging
Up for work soon
That clock isn’t changing

And just when I think
There’s nothing to lose
He flashes me
Those baby blues

He flashes me
Those baby blues

OctPoWriMo #7 – The Traveller (poem)

The traveller stood and stared
At the junction of the road.
One path was less travelled –
Was that the way to go?

It was covered with thick brambles,
Dense and dark as night.
Who knew what was lurking there,
Hidden, out of sight?

The traveller stood and stared
At the junction of the track.
Then skipped along the travelled path.

And never looked back.

Freedom (poem)

Freedom to fly, on wings made of dreams
Always believing life’s more than it seems

Freedom to walk, toes squelched in the earth
Aiming to rise above our own birth

Freedom to dance, with smiles on our hips
The courage to write and rewrite life’s script

Freedom to fail, and flourish, and thrive,
Daring to do more than simply survive

Freedom is knowing that one day we’ll die,
But living before, with heads held up high

Writing 201: Poetry #1 – A Modern Love (haiku)

Always by my side,
My constant companion…
Except when charging
This is today’s contribution to two separate challenges. This is my first day on the Writing 201: Poetry course. The prompt there was for something about “screens” or modern devices, combined with a haiku style, and alliteration.

The prompt for OctPoWriMo – a challenge to write a poem a day during October – was “love”. I think this covers all bases, but let me know what you think in the comments below 🙂

Where Magic Lies (poem)

Eyes lock
Lean in
Second’s pause
Worlds spin

Flesh tingle
Hearts pound
Lips lock
Doubt downed

Heart’s plans
Come undone
There was two.
Now, one.

When Doubt Came Knocking (poem)

When doubt came knocking at my door
I tried to keep her out
Hid beneath my bed and then
Ignored her every shout

She whispered through the letterbox
Poured poison on my dreams,
Sapped my store of confidence:
Is nothing what it seems?

But as I sat there, tested
I heard a voice within.
Stand up, be tall, have no fear:
You shall not let her win!

So…

When doubt again came knocking at my door
I showed her where to go
Picked up my trusty pen and then
Went merrily with the flow

Well, What Do You See? (poem)

I will be taking part in OctPoWriMo – October Poetry Writing Month – aiming to write and publish a poem every day this month. In my usual way, I only found out about this a couple of days ago, and have zero poems stockpiled… I like a challenge! Anyone can join in – you can sign up here http://www.octpowrimo.com/2015/10/octpowrimo-begins.html

Today’s prompt was “clouds”…

Chugging Steam Trains
Lickable Lollies
Oodles of noodles
Unidentified Flying Objects… flying
Dragon’s Breath
Scampering Sheep, fleeing the dragon!

Well, what do you see?
