Haiku – “Eggs”

Keep the egg up, warm.
Icy winds endless assault
Long night is coming

Forget steak and chips:
Some scrambled eggs and bacon
Would be my last meal!

We all hatch from eggs
Peck blindly into this world.
Some go no further

For TJ’s weekly haiku challenge, with the prompt of “eggs”. Check out the other great haiku here!

Haiku – “Tea Cosy”

TJ’s weekly challenge is “tea cosy” this week… not an obvious source for poetry (depending on how strongly you feel about your cuppa, I guess!), but this is where I’ve taken it:

Memory is cruel :
Household items needle us
With what time has claimed

Haiku – “Teacup” / “Storm”

Riding the teacups,
Laughing through endless summers,
Long since forgotten

Life in the bunker,
Battening down the hatches
Waiting for the storm

Weather front forming,
Clouds gather over China:
Storm in a teacup!

These haiku combine two separate challenges – Haiku Horizons and TJ’s Household Haiku Challenge. When I first saw TJ’s prompt this week – “teacup” – my first thought was something based on the phrase “storm in a teacup”, which is a convenient 5 syllables. I tried to resist, but when the haiku horizons prompt was “storm”… Well, that just seemed like serendipity!

Haiku – “Oil”

This was written for TJ’s weekly haiku challenge. Check it out here! https://amaviedecoeurentier.wordpress.com/2015/09/26/tjs-household-haiku-challenge-oil/

I struggled with the prompt word this week, to be honest. I tried to write something on “black gold”, but it just felt trite, and I’ve never been one for oil of any type on a salad. I then remembered a management buzz phrase about doing things more efficiently, and came up with this effort…

A creaky door hinge,
Or a mouse frying some chips?
Get grease to the squeak!

Haiku – “Scales”

Three haiku for TJ’s weekly challenge, trying different takes on “scales” – check out the other entries here! https://amaviedecoeurentier.wordpress.com/2015/09/19/tims-household-haiku-challenge-scales/

Scales fall from eyes.
I see your inner beauty,
Beguiling smile

Scales of justice,
Finely balanced by the truth,
Or so the judge says

Old bathroom scales
Tell me such delicious lies.
Time for some seconds!

Haiku Challenge – “Recipes”

This is my contribution for TJ’s weekly haiku challenge – check it out here: https://amaviedecoeurentier.wordpress.com/2015/09/05/tjs-household-haiku-challenge-recipies/

My two year old has been baking with my wife in the kitchen this week, and I was desperate to write a haiku about that… the words just wouldn’t come though. Sometimes you can’t force inspiration. Sometimes it finds you.

Luck, time, two fine souls:
Bond them in life’s crucible.
True love’s recipe

Haiku Challenge – Cobwebs

Here are my efforts for TJ’s weekly haiku challenge – https://amaviedecoeurentier.wordpress.com/2015/08/29/tjs-household-haiku-challenge-cobweb/ . “Cobwebs” is such a rich prompt word. Hope you enjoy 🙂

Brisk walk on the beach
By daylight’s sluggish greeting
Blows out the cobwebs

Lurking in corners
Dusty cobwebs tell a tale:
Here there be ghosties!

Hedgerow spiderwebs
Glistening and shimmering
Draped in midnight dreams

Haiku Challenge – “Glass”

These are my contributions for this week’s haiku challenge from TJ, on the theme of “glass”. I enjoyed this theme… so much potential! Check out the other entries here: https://amaviedecoeurentier.wordpress.com/2015/08/16/tjs-household-haiku-challenge-glass/

My heart is shaped glass
Channeling clear emotion
If dropped, I shatter

I rattle the ice
Deep sigh. Tap fingers. Chantelle.
Drain the final drops

Hold it to the light,
Reflecting and refracting,
Lying with its truth

Piano (haiku)

Here are two contributions for TJ’s weekly haiku challenge, on “piano” theme. The first is reflective, the second more playful. Hope you enjoy these! Check out some great haiku (and stunning photography) here: https://amaviedecoeurentier.wordpress.com/2015/08/08/tjs-household-haiku-challenge-piano/

Unplayed piano
Waits in a dusty corner
For just one more song

Jaunty melody,
Discordant tinkling of keys;
Cat on piano!
