A batch of three haiku for Ronovan’s challenge this week, with the prompt words “think” and “free”. Top marks for anyone who can separate the two references in the second haiku…
#1
The world isn’t safe
Despite our best intentions
Need more free thinkers
#2
My life is a cage
Thoughts bounded in a nutshell
But onstage, I’m free
#3
An old lie, I think:
The dignity of labour
That work sets you free
I particularly like the third one! Having just gone back to work it speaks directly to me. :(…. 🙂

Thanks TJ. Have you read Philip Larkin’s poem Toads? That sums up perfectly my feelings about work!

I will be reading it now for sure.

Thanks Prakash. Hard to argue with the sentiment of the world needing free thinkers!

I like #3 also. Is the second from Free Bird? 😀

It’s not Free Bird, although I can see why you said that. Now you’ve got me thinking about a Freebird haiku….

The movie ‘Bird Cage’ came to mind when I read the 2nd haiku. All three haiku are good. I especially liked the 1st one. 😀

Thanks Vashti. The second is a mix of highbrow and pop culture from (gulp) about twenty years ago! When did I get so old? ?

Very nice. #3 appeals to my socialist slant.

Thanks John. Wasn’t written with a socialist slant in mind, but I can see that that fits 🙂

All three are great!
Our thinking is imprisoned and conditioned by our inhibitions, dogmas and false values hard to change. But our outward appearance, the facade seems free.
