Freedom to fly, on wings made of dreams
Always believing life’s more than it seems
Freedom to walk, toes squelched in the earth
Aiming to rise above our own birth
Freedom to dance, with smiles on our hips
The courage to write and rewrite life’s script
Freedom to fail, and flourish, and thrive,
Daring to do more than simply survive
Freedom is knowing that one day we’ll die,
But living before, with heads held up high
Written for OctPoWriMo Day 5 – a re-drafted version of an earlier poem on the theme of “freedom”
I love the feeling I got when I read the “smiles on our hips”, giving us full permission to shake, rattle and roll with freedom’s dance! 🙂

I love the ‘freedom to fail’ part off this poem. Sometimes we need to fail to learn, but in our modern society failure is not always an option! 🙂

Sadly true… although this blog is proof that you can fail semi-publicly, and often, if you throw in some childish humour 🙂

Well, you see that is not failure in my eyes. I love childish humour! 🙂

When I eventually (inevitably) write a fart-based haiku, I look forward to you being the solo “like” !

Very much enjoyed this poem, the rhythm and the rhyme, and I resonated with the words themselves. Well done, thanks for sharing with OctPoWriMo!

Fantastic. I think we *might* have been on the same brain-wave with this prompt.

I think so… love the form that you used. Will have to give that a go if it doesn’t come up as a prompt 🙂

I was about to say “Wow! That last paragraph!” But I the I reread everything and realised I was wrong. The whole poem is very powerful!
I agree with everything in it, it is the way I have decided that I’d live from now on, having wasted too many years merely surviving. I don’t always succeed, but… that’s what I aim for!
Really powerful write!

Thanks Dawn. If we always succeeded, life would be awful boring… that’s what I tell myself anyway. The setbacks make the success the sweeter 🙂
