Today’s prompt was to sing about our successes… I recently passed some significant (for me) milestones in terms of numbers reading this blog, so I thought about writing about that. But having also come across both blogs that have amazing poetry (and hardly any likes) and some blogs that have nothing but awful, incomprehensible doggerel (and a bizarre number of likes), I’ve decided to take a different tack. BTW – if I’ve visited your blog more than once, the latter is not aimed at you!
Made it to some milestones
For followers and views
But that’s no validation
For the poetic path I choose
So I won’t share those numbers:
They’re personal to me.
No need to brag and boast
About my vanity
I’m not playing the numbers game
So thanks for your attention.
Success is individual.
Not a competition
This is today’s contribution to OctPoWriMo – a challenge to write a poem a day during October. You can sign up here, at any time during the month, or just check out the prompts and tips if you prefer – http://www.octpowrimo.com/

So very easy to get caught up in those numbers but shallow for sure!

It is… But publishing poems to zero response is an awful feeling… I know it’s shallow, or subject to the randomness of the internet, but I’m human too!

As am I for sure. I wish I could just write for the shear joy of it but I don’t unfortunately at least not all the time!

I know the feeling… if I won the lottery (a comfortable amount – I’m not greedy!) you’d see no end of content from me on here. It’s already a struggle balancing life/ need to pay bills/ creative outlets ! 🙂

Yes, we don’t write for the numbers, but from time to time, our vanity appreciates to see that they aren’t awful, or that we’re progressing in these numbers as well as in our ability!
Beautiful!

That was great Al. Yes it is nice to have our poems appreciated but like you say, it is not a competition 🙂

Good resolution! 🙂 I’m too busy and flaky to remember to look at my numbers.

I tend to reply to comments from the stats page in WordPress, so it’s hard for me to avoid them… I used to check them incessantly, especially in days when they would be in danger of ending the day on “zero”

Well, one has to have a hobby, I guess….LOL!

A hobby would be nice… this is more like a compulsion!

I with you on the stats. I never look at mine. I measure my success on the fun-o-meter.

Ooh, is there an app for that? 🙂

I wish. Wouldn’t that be the coolest! It would change the world 🙂

This is stellar, Al, and echoes my blog philosophy–I don’t care about numbers, just the people I connect with.

I think I’m not here for the the numbers but to get this stuff out of my head before it drives me crazy.:)

I know that feeling… although the consequence seems to be driving my family mad with it instead!

Yeah, that too:)

Bravo. I like the numbers for the patterns they make, and that’s all!

Great post! When I chose my “Follow me” widgets, i didn’t think about them. After your post i may see if the “numbers” are removable. I write for me too, not numbers…👍
