The summer has been the usual affair so far – ie lots and lots of rain! It’s Wimbledon fortnight now, so I don’t expect that to change in a hurry 🙂
So here’s a limerick with the key elements of any English summer:
Summer comes but once a year
Bringing a smidge of sun and cheer
Wet barbecues
And tennis queues
Ice creams and cold beer!

Good one, Al. I am old enough to remember when it was “warm beer”!

I’ve never developed a taste for it… mostly I drink cider anyway (being a West Country lad)!

West Country, eh? Whereabouts in Scrumpyland?

Gloucester. Or as the locals say, Glawster 🙂

Gloster, eh? Ever been to Stroud?

Many times. It’s only ten miles or so away… have been roughed up many a time on a Stroud rugby pitch!

You played rugby? What position? Who did you play for, playing against Stroud? Did you play against Frome too?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I used to play for Old Cryptians (I went to Crypt School) – started off in the second row, but ended up (grudgingly) at tight-head prop. I even played for Stroud once, when they turned up short of a couple of players… that was fun!
I don’t think we ever played Frome. They’re a little bit further south. There’s an awful lot of teams, and an awful lot of rugby, in the south west. Gloucester’s perhaps the only city in this country where football comes a very distant second 🙂

Crypt, eh? That would have been in the Kingswood, Moncton Combe circuit. So: you were a tight-head donkey eh? Barry John terminology. Did you know Michael Bevan (cricket) or was he before your time?

Kingswood… we may have played them. We didn’t need to go as far as Bristol for most of our games. Like I said, rugby is huge in the area

So true! I was just having lunch outside when the smidge of sun got obliterated by the clouds – yet again! Brr…

I guess the UK and Belgium are both known for their wishy washy summers with lots of rain and clouds… Sending some sun and warmer weather your way… But, wait, what will you write about then? 🙂

Well, Monday it was dancing, Tuesday was about storytelling, Weds was faith, and love, and today is summer … I don’t like to put all my poetic eggs in one basket! And if I did, there’s always more zombie stuff I could do 🙂

Now, if you could get it to rain BBQ… I’d be tilting my head up for that one. Happy Summer to yas!! 🙂

We’re more traditional here in England. We prefer to combine rain and BBQ the old-fashioned way, with a man cooking sausages under an umbrella while everyone else drinks inside!

Quite right. Carry on and allow me to take hold of the handle to the rain shield so you can flip the burgers…

I’ve been in that position before. It’s a big responsibility, bearing the brolly… especially as keeping the chef supplied with drinks is part of the gig!

Very cute! Is your summer always cool then? Ours hasn’t been the warmest but definitely nice enough. And I have recently discovered the delights of hard cider as I’m not a beer drinker. It’s good!

Cider, of any form, is delicious. And because it’s made from apples, it must be good for you. Right?
Our summers are changeable. There’s usually a hot spell around 25-30 degrees at some point, and lots of showers and rain the rest of the time. The Glastonbury festival (last week) and Wimbledon fortnight (on now) are notorious for being rainy!
August is normally more reliable, so we booked our holiday for then last year… we spent the first five days battered by heavy rain, before the sun finally came out! Rockpooling and searching for crabs is fun, but there’s a limit!

😦 Yes. We’re going to Virginia Beach next week to see family and its usually hot but could rain some or a lot. My sis has a pool so I’m hoping for not too much rain! And yes I would think cider is very healthy for you. I just had a pear one that was so good!

I had raspberry cider for the first time a couple of weeks back. Delicious!

I’ll be there from 7/2 till 7/11. My sister lives there. Where are you, northern VA?

That’s a common misconception I think. In Britain, Summer is rainy and COLD! (Except for that one week of heat up to 30C) 😉

Beck when I was a college student (you know, recently since I’m so young and all), I arrived in London for my best semester of all in August and it was sunny and hot. I was kind of disappointed it wasn’t raining! It felt like I landed in the wrong place. 🙂 But the rain came soon enough… and I carried an umbrella with me for months… ☔

I’ll take clouds any day over the cruel blazing sun! We do the same thing over here, with the one poor sap outside cooking. I’m always sure to give a steady supply of drink to make it worthwhile! 😉

Wooahahh! So you guys get some sun in the summer or is it just rain and then back to being cold? 🙄
LikeLiked by 1 person
There’s always at least a little sun in there (mid July to August is typically the warmest time). So far, we’ve had lots of rain and mild temperatures though!
